My panel suggest me conduct my data collection on-site if I want to do a single case study on their environmental sustainability. I would like to learn about their adaptation and practices.
However, I will do my data collection online.
Is it ok to do so? And what article should I refer or any good paper to back it up?

It is better to conduct case studies on site since it involves interactions with the target group. You will also get many insights from the field which will help you a lot when you prepare the report
I agree with Mohammed Kasim C. that doing fieldwork on-site is often the best approach to a case study, but I also recognize that this is not always possible. So, if your access is limited to online interviewing, then you will need to justify that this kind of data for this case can make a contribution to your field.
As for techniques in online interviewing, most of what I have seen involves adapting focus groups to this format. Apparently there is an assumption that in-person and online individual interviewing are similar enough to not require any major adaptations for going online.
