I am planing to start a research with the support of Emotiv EEG System. For such kind of research, do we need the support of a medical doctor to prevent possible damages to the brain? My background is computer science and I have never used EEG before.

Seriously, EEG systems use very low-power battery-powered circuits to make them very save. They are widely used without any medical support. In research, of course, you'll need human-subject approval, so you'll need to be familiar with best practices (mostly hygiene, data privacy, subject-handling and experimental design.)

EEG is a very safe technique and you don't need medical advice to carry your experiment out. People have been using this technique for years without any problem. However, one thing you need to consider is that since EEG montage implies exfolation of the scalp, individuals with dermatitis might not be elegible for the experiment. You just need to ask for this information in advance.

Not actually. However if you have not any experiences abour EEG recording it would be better to ask an expert doctor how to record EEG correct way.
Before this research can proceed you would need ethics approval from your Research School. This is because you are dealing with human participants. Also there is the case of confidentiality of the data. Some kind of insurance may also be advisable and also legal protection in case one of the test subjects blames you for whatever misfortune befalls them.
EEG systems are very safe and can be used in lab for signal generation even in the absence of a Doctor. We have a department called Biomedical instruments where I see scientists using ECG, EEG signals with any assistance from Doctors. Nevertheless, sometimes we call doctors for the interpretation of signals generated.
