There are people using it to edit the papers and improve the text as language assistant, not the ideas in the papers, this is may be an interesting use of the AI because not everybody have a well label of English writing. There is an interesting article in NATURE about this hot subject https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-00340-6 . But if you use it I recommended to add a comment, edited by chatgtp . Also it may be interesting for you and another people how well it worked but you must check the result it may have wrong content or semantic changes that they change the meaning paragraph. All this is very experimental right now.

it's a good question that nobody known the answer just now. chagpt add information and change meaning of paragraph sometimes, then the text must be checked. Not always chatgpt is exactly editing or polish text but is very important to make experiments before decide which use it's correct or incorrect perhaps the system may be corrected to do a better work without adding new things to the text . This is the beginning of a new era with more AI but still this technology has a margin of fail, it's not infallible and also people may give a bad use to it. The human factor is the most worries, how people can use it to make fake articles, fake news, fake realty .

According to that study published in Nature (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-022-05543-x), the research are becoming less and less disruptive. So the argument that ChatGPT is be able to "kill innovative ideas and creative skills" have to be reconsidered.
perhaps chatgpt may help to find new ideas. There were people that reported very amazing answers from this system about several subjects but I didn't see anything really fresh or new but yes interesting. There aren't enough experiments and results to know how it can help us to develop science or knowledge , may be it can kill creative skill .
Its the next (inevitable) step up from using a spelling/grammar checker. Problem is, if all academic reports are written by chatbots, the ability for AI to learn stalls, since all academic papers begin to look and read the same.

I used CHATGPT 4 to improve redaction and wording in some difficult paragraphs in my work and I got very good results . Not always the output is good, sometime it change meaning but with few fixes it was better than the original text and more clear. It's a wonderful tool but sometimes it needs help to make well job. I saved a lot of time and effort using it .

The problem is that the AI and CHATGPT are still in the office , industry and laboratory, it'll be very difficult prohibit tools based in AI because you'll be less competitive, less effective and less profit than others. Nobody want to stay last in this competitive and global world. But it's compressible that people can give bad use to it and may affect the people cognitive develop, it's very clear, I think. This is a big dilemma, I haven't an answer for this. It's needed more research to find good ways to use these tool and detect bad use of them as plagiarism, nobody know exactly how we'll detect fraud based in chatgpt.
