We are group of researchers, working on a project that involves analyzing records of supervisory committee meetings. The identity of the supervisors and their supervised students are kept confidential. However, It would be difficult to get approval from the chair supervisor and the co-supervisors to use such records.
To all researchers, I would be thankful to have your recommendations regarding this matter.
The general rule is that when a research involves human subjects, you should seek permission from the university and the people involved.

It is not obvious that you would need to get the committee members’ permission, rather than the permission of some administrator. The graduate studies dep’t or the university may “own” the records, since the activities recorded were presumably part of the committee members’ official duties and hence could be considered bought and paid for with their salaries.

In fact, the audio records are are recorded by PhD candidates after a permission was taken from their respective committee. So it is more of supervisors trying to help their students by allowing them to record the supervision sessions. To my knowledge, the grad department or any organization under the university have no control or certain regulation regarding this matter.
Data of 'Subjectivity' is always subject of approval from individual & associated organisations.
'Objectivity' is encouraged by 'Democracy' via numerous activities
Protection of life & personal 'Liberty' basically fundamental rights guaranteed by 'Article-21' of 'Constitution of India' irrespective of 'Governance' is violated if any individual or organisations including Government penetrate in 'Liberty' of individuals.

in Austria where I`m living these data are protected by the law. Data could be used for research when no client/paticipant could be detected and the participants/clients agreee on because there remains a risk of being detected. Best regrads Wolf Dietrich
Yasir, will you be able to be present at all supervisory committee meetings? How certain are you that both supervisor and student agree your presence during the meetings?

Well, I do not need to be presented. I was thinking to take the audio records from the students if they and their supervisors agree to let me use them. However, according to the feedback of the researchers along with yours in this post, it sounds hard to get consent from supervisory committees.

The case might be different in Malaysia where I live. However, it is still not easy to go on with such project that involves human. Getting a consent from students and supervisory committees is still a must.

General Data Protection Regulation GDPR , Regulation (EU) 2016/679
So if you desire to publicate your results in Europe please try to be in line with this regulation.
