I have written around 15 research papers on medical students' mental health in Pakistan. And I thought it to be a good idea to publish a compendium on them, in their actual form rather than copy-editing them as a regular book.
Is it ethical to publish a compendium of one's research papers (open access) on a similar theme, in the form of a book? Do we need publishers'/journals' explicit permission to do this?

The right way out is to seek the consent of the individual who published the article; or better, used the article but do not forget to acknowledge the source(s).
First thing to clarify would be - did you publish all the 15 papers in an open access format? If so, usually you own the copyright. If not, when you publish the papers in a traditional journals, the publishers own the copyright.
Second thing is - Did you publish it as a single author paper or did you have co-authors? If you have published it as a single author, no issues. However, if you co-publish with other authors; as much you own the copyright, they also own the copyright. So, you still have to obtain their written permission.
Thirdly, if you're making your papers into a book; both are written in a different styles. Still you have to do lots of works to convert into a book.
Finally, if you would like to self-publish your work, you could go ahead and do it. However, if you're going for a traditional publishers; you have to convince them that your book will sell. Mostly, the international publishers will not be interested (until otherwise, if that was a local publishers) as it will have a restricted sale. They will not make much money out of your work.

I should write 2 versions of every paper: one open and another not open
In the open one you could add useful things as test setup, data reports, populate with figures and photograps that usually not appear in the not open web pages. Open version will have more reads. Not advances will be achieved in Science without freedom.
Probably yes, but under a ethical point of view, it should only be added to the personal curriculum once.
You cant publish same content in your book. you can do changes and you have to cite that particular article authors in your work.
