I think I have been bullied by certain chemical society. My question is, what can I do if this is true. Is one editor, or the chief editor? There is nothing in the instructions, so that the editor can unsubscribe a draft for lack of ALL details.
It is customary for journals to require HKL or MTZ files, which are used to run validation software (such as CIFCHECK). PDB deposited coordinates require the inclusion of the mtz or hkl data and is made available to download from the electron density server. If CIFCHECK is required for your article submission then the HKL file should be included in the full validation report. When I review a manuscript with crystal structures lacking the experimental data I suspect that someone is hiding information. In the end, if you did a great job on collection, processing, and refinement then you have nothing to be concerned about and should include the HKL.
When I was at Indiana U., nobody ever asked me any hkl filer nor any proof of collection goodness. Now that I reside out of the states, suddenly we are required of something that the XRD guy was never required or sent before. By the way CIFCHECK did not require HKL file to pass the editorial "quality control". And we are working with mall molecules (1000 Daltons), not proteins. This comes from another paper reviewer ( biological polymers).
