The SEM results from my experiment revealed that the noncrystalline cellulose had a spherical form (CNC). The majority of paper written on CNC is rod shaped. Additionally, some papers demonstrated its spherical shape. If possible I am happy give an answer for my questions?
It would be helpful if you could share an example of your SEM image. CNC usually has diameters in the range of 3-10 nm meaning it is doubtful you observed individual CNC fibers with an SEM. It may be probable that the CNC agglomerated into a ball. In their natural state they are rod-like due to the straight chain polymeric chain of glucose units, beta 1-4 bonds. SEM coatings can be 50% of the diameter of a CNC fiber. I think it is more likely that you are observing microfibrillated cellulose (MFC). How did you prepare your fibers?
