There is no such thing as "irreversible climate change" (e.g. Koonin, 2021).
Yes, some aspects of climate change are becoming irreversible, especially due to long-lasting impacts on Earth’s systems. Evidence includes the accelerated melting of polar ice caps and glaciers, which is contributing to permanent sea level rise, and the loss of Arctic sea ice, which is unlikely to recover as global temperatures continue to rise. Additionally, ocean acidification, driven by increased CO₂ absorption, is altering marine ecosystems irreversibly. Climate models suggest that even if emissions were halted, some changes would persist for centuries due to the slow response of Earth’s climate systems.
