Happiness is an inner feeling that results from the realization of a range of wishes that the person seeks to achieve. This happiness also arises when we or our children achieve success in professional or academic work and other matters of life. Happiness is an internal feeling that reflects external contextual factors.
The concept of happiness varies from one person to another, and it differs in its definition of philosophers as well. It is a relative term. A person may be pleased with something that is common to others. this is because of the external factors for each person
True happiness is within each of us, and that the positive conditions that provide us with moments of joy can be realized only through our sense of happiness and work to reach and translate them in ways that correspond to our personalities and our patterns.
Thank you for inviting me to answer your question.
For many persons, happiness is synonymous with success or achievement or pleasure or escaping a difficult situation. I disagree with all of them because celebrating these "events" is usually momentary & there is no guarantee that the desire to become content is fulfilled.
Furthermore, every person has events happening in his/her life that really hurt such as the death of a beloved one, abuse, discrimination, poverty, depression, to name a few.
It is hard to have hope sometimes, and we find ourselves fighting to stay positive. Sometimes, maybe most of the time, we cannot reach positivism so we feel abandoned, alone, and neglected by our closest relatives & friends especially at old age.
You may be surprised to know that there was a discussion about "happiness" in one of my classes , when I was a college student in 1971.
I reached this conclusion through the years by dividing this life into : The Creator & the created. I cannot count on the created all the time so I placed my trust in my God trying to please him all the time & He never let me down. I really found the true path to happiness in my inner feelings but this arrived by external factors by the mercy of my Lord. I think that I am content & the song (Let it Be by The Beatles) has become my incessant slogan.
Both play a part and influence each other. Also happiness is a relative term. People in Bhutan are supposedly one of the happiest people on the earth. Sometimes if you lead a simple life and are content with the status quo, you are more than happy compared to someone else who has all the wealth in the world. Internal happiness is longer lasting since one is more in control of oneself than the environment which is impossible to predict
