The energy efficiency, and dependability are collaborative, but different issues that can be used to identify the quality of a thing, such as a component, or a system, or a process.
The energy efficiency measures the effectiveness of transforming an input resource to a desired energy form.
On the other hand, the dependability includes some critical issues such as reliability, maintainability, availability, adequacy, security, safety, robustness, fault tolerance, and resilience. These issues depend on the design, used materials, maintenance strategies, operation scenarios, operational environment ... etc. The success of a system to do its intended function in a given duration (i.e. the reliability or the Mean Time Between Failures) may be a strong indicator of the dependability, but it is not sufficient. The other stated issues should also be considered for the overall evaluation of the dependability.
