Can any fellow explain the merits, demerits and student's approach towards the same in the gulf countries?
Hello Shenaz, The E learning concept is quite new in developing countries. As such if the facilities are available the E learning is always helpful. I have tried in our college some of the E learning methods for teaching which students admired a lot. No such research work I have done. But the results are quite helpful. The facilities required are expensive and requires lot of administrative support.
Keeping these things in mind, you can proceed for some pilot work.
In medical educaiton the strong visualization capabilities are mandatory in eleaning for having a good level of knowledge transition. Most of the existing elearning envirenments are not natively support it, it should be developend depending on the availabla content or at least you have to use some third party add-ons. This is the technical side. On the teaching and demonstration materials side the teacher should be skiiled and able to think in moders capturing and visualization techniques to find the appropriate presentation method for the content. thus contents should be designed for exploiting the (sometimes hidden) possibilities of the new technologies. It means theachers should restructure the classic teaching materials' presentation line, agenda etc.

I consider e-learning as a modern fundamental tool in complement to our Hands-on Medical education courses.
Nothing will ever substitute direct approach in practical Medical Education. But, with the modern multiplication of online medical bibliography, e-learning has become a fundamental tool that students have to keep in touch, and to update in a more comfortable way after their strenuous presencial hands-on practical learning.
