In China, entire metropolises are built according to the plan of sustainable smart cities. An example is Shenzen, which over 30 years ago was a small village and is now a modern metropolis. In addition, other cities of this type are planned to be built from scratch in the next 30 years. Some of these metropolises, which are currently planned for construction, are to be almost completely autonomous in terms of energy and in terms of food supply. These new pro-ecological metropolises, planned as smart city cities, contain many greenery and include crop fields and solar power plants at the periphery.

It can't be sustainable as most of Chinese products failing requirements in other countries which means it is self centric which doesn't allow it to be sustainable
We can say that the Chinese economy is one of the strongest economies now, it’s expected to be the biggest economy in the world within few years, so they have enough resources to start also to continue supporting (sustainable smart cities) policies, even they can create more job vacancies through these policies
But, because we don’t have access to another data source, we can’t make sure that the numbers and the results are real or not. It said that they are promoting these technologies to sell it to the west nothing else.
With the presence of the pollution in most of the Chinese cities, also thousands of cities are empty we must make sure if their claim( China is the technological leader in the construction of environment-friendly metropolises) is right or not by doing more research about that.
