I am using TSI 3076 constant output atomizer to generate particles as given in the manual using NaCl salt conc. about 0.15 g/Lt in clean water. as per the manual peak should show up around 60-70 nm. but i am getting much bigger particles say 0.3 micronmeter. silical gel is dried enough. please suggest what could be the possible reasons.

in other words if particles passing through the siclia gel are not dried enough, it could lead to bigger size. i have tried with regenerated silica gel, result was same. at 3LPM out flow of particles, residence time for a particle to dry (passing through silica gel) is less than 1 sec, is this is good enough to dry ?. Perhaps heating may work but then its not mentioned in the manual. may i know how are you drying.

You measure Da with Elpi and TSI 3076 manual is speaking about mobility Diameter. You can calculate your aerodynamic diameter, NaCl density is ~2.2 .
Salt concentration might be too high.

I do not understand your remark that particle size depends on drying rate; can you give an explanation?
I do not remember which TSI atomizer we used (in the 80s and 90s), however we observed that even using the de-ionized water we always got 5-20 nm particles. Then we found in the "pure" water often was 30-50 ppb of humic acids, So try everything without adding any salt in it, then let us know what happened. By the way, we never really solved this problem - that the particles have been bigger than they should have.
Two possible causes:
1. The surface tension of solution is different than that of pure water, and this will cause variations in breakup behavior of droplet on the collision-type atomizer.
2. Different evaporation rate between the pure water drop and solution drop.
I think # 1 is a more likely cause.

1. He asks the size for this specific nebulizer. Indeed there are differences between different brands: we use/used a Wiesbadener (dopple inhaler) because it prodcues a rather small spectrum
2. Again he asks this for the TSI 3076 and refers to the manual in which the protocol is given
And my question to you: why would the size of the core insoluble part depend on the evaporation rate at the monent of formation of the droplet has where the droplet is very dilute even at the concnetration he mentions?
It's also important to take into account the shape factor for NaCl if you measure using electrical mobility.
