My project uses live action as its base. I intend to reimagine and re-visualise stories using rotoscoping, collage and drawing.
I would like to transform my interviews into paintings - for example a cubist portrait..
Any ideas
Also looking a methodologies - elements of auto ethnography, heuristics, action research...
Any practitioner researchers out there with some advice?

Do you know the critically acclaimed Israeli documentary "Waltz with Bashir" (2008), which deals with the 1982 Lebanon War? It uses a technique which is similar in effect (but not in practice) to rotoscoping. It gives it a dark and dreamlike quality. More here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waltz_with_Bashir
Besides Waltz with Bashir, you there's a project for a rotoscoped Vincent Van Gogh documentary (Loving Vincent, 2016), which actually employs several painters that re-do the frames shot, one painting a a time. Another example is Waking Life (2001) or A Scanner Darkly (2006), which aren't technically documentary per se, but you can use them as reference.
The problem with rotoscopy is that painting each and every frame by hand (or even digitally) is a high consuming, laborious and expensive task.
A cheaper and faster option would be to convert video frames to high quality images (jpg or png) and run segments through a stylized filter, either in photoshop or any other image editing software. It wouldn't be as personalized but it would make the job easier, and you could just paint specific segments by hand.
