I want to research the effects of antibiotics being released into the waterways on bacteria populations. However, as an undergrad I am not sure which department would be best to approach this idea. Any suggestions?
Try using Google Scholar and punch in some key words, such as antibiotic, wastewater, effects (no need for commas, just put in the three words and see what you get). I found those 2 papers in seconds using those 3 words. Then try other combinations of likely key words. Searching is easy once you get the hang of it.
I think that it will be more interesting to use "Science direct" or other specific data base to find information. A lot of work have been made about this subject in european countries and, I hope, in North America. Data can be not accessible in free access data, ask your structure for data from Elsevier, Blackwell, Springler...
Nathalie ... I agree with you for those readers who have access through their university to extensive data bases, and I am sure that is so for Colleen who is in the U.S. By contrast, researchers in developing countries often do not have the same access, and many are on RG for that reason. So I think Google Scholar has an important role to play in expanding scientific knowledge throughout the world. RG does a very good job of assisting that process. I put my papers on RG specifically for that reason.
