I used sheep and cow dung for soil burail method, after a 1 year incubation period I saw the dung , it got some compost and some are white in colour and in powder form. Can anyone please help and suggest the reason why the dung is white and inpowder form. How can it be identified? Pls guide me through the methodology and reasoning.

My hypothesis is that your grey-white powder in your compost pile was produced by filamentous actinomycetes. Often, it is a sign that these areas in your compost pile were too dry. To confirm this hypothesis, try to look at it with a microscope (twisted filaments with a cell diameter < 1.0 µm) or to isolate it on an actinomycete isolation medium.

Thank you mam, but sheep dung is white in colour, but other are normal and my compost polythene bags is also normal, so please guide me the reason why the dung is white in colour,pls help me mam

Most sheep dungs are brownish in color. However, the alimentation could also change the color and gave more light dungs. Also, dry dungs are usually clearer than fresh one, since they are more dry. Still, my hypothesis was that something is growing on the sheep dungs and that some microorganisms give the white color. In compost, actinomycetes give a grew-white color. However, it could also be fungi.
To confirm that it is a microorganism, you have to do binocular and microscopic observations. Try to see some filamentous hyphal growth and spores. You can also do some stain coloration and try to see it with a microscope. You need to measure these structures to help you.
