A very interesting, timely and intriguing question Krzysztof! Not a great deal has been done on competition itself (though see https://core.ac.uk/download/files/108/398034.pdf) but surely as part of a wider gravitation towards a model of 'alliance capitalism', features of cooperation that align to the concept of strategic co-opetition are becoming more not less pronounced also in the HE sector as competition for funding, students and international collaborations/markets intensifies. There is certainly scope for applying many of the groundbreaking concepts first developed by Brandenburger and Nalebuff. Good luck with your research endeavors!
This is a very interesting question and I can confirm that there is a lot happening in this area. This is quite true in France as well as the UK and very common in marketing initiatives.
I published a paper in 2014 on co-optition in French business schools.(see below)
I would be grateful of any comments you have and would be very happy to talk to you more on this subject.
Best wishes,
Mark
Strategic Alliances in the Marketing of International Higher Education: A Framework for Enduring and Successful Outcomes
I would be somewhat wary. Many changes to the HE ecosystem are working against traditional forms of more collaborative academia. In 2010 Tom Kennie and I drew parallels with the changing world of professional services. The discussion paper for the LFHE is linked below.
It is very interesting topic. As a manager of private higher education institution I have more than 10 years experience at Latvian market. This question was very actual for for me and still is interesting. There are big field for research in this case in Latvia. It will be very interesting to cooperate and make research in this field.
