Hello.
I am interested in salt tolerance of Triticeae crops so that nowadays I am growing some wild relatives such as Elymus dahuricus and Thinopyrum ponticum. I treated vernalization for up to one month under 4ºC but they haven't flowered whereas wheat or barley had already done. I cannot have gotten seed for about 2 or 3 years.
I wonder that halophytes require salt to grow and flower.

The problem of salt requirement for flowering of halophytes is still debatable.
At least for several species - so called obligatory halophytes (euhalophytes) - it is stated that they would require some salt addition to flowering. See, for instance, in my last book about halophytes published by Springer the iconic case of Nitraria schoberi, cultivated for many years by Linne in the Botanical Garden of Uppsala. It has not flourished until salt was added to the growing environment.
However, to test if they need salt to flowering, you have to use different concentrations of NaCl, in order to identify the right concentration that induces flowering. Also, pay attention that some species may require some nutrients - apart from salt addition - that might help the flowering process.
