As part of my project, I have a recorded lipid profile reading of
TC ~6.2
HDL ~1.5
LDL - too low to register
TG - too low to register
non-HDL ~4.3
This was after an overnight fast in a healthy middle aged adult.
The total cholesterol was high, as was HDL.

What type of method used is it direct or precipitation method? It look that nonHDL is calculated from results of lipid profile. It looks it is a technical error, from analyser or from sample.
I´m biochemist.

I have many doubts:
-Those determinations were repeated or made only once?
-Was used serum o plasm? If was used serum maybe one little net of fibrin can be the cause,
-The result of non-HDL is a math calc. 6.2 minus 1.5 is equal to 4.7. So, why 4.3?
I suggest repeat the determinations with a new blood sample

Jorge Robledo - it was using a cartrdge loaded analyser, requiring a 60ml blood sample, and only done once.
The calc is as you say but also ' - (TG/2.2)'. Still that leaves some discrepancy, but I posted rounded values.
I will repeat it and post the results.

The quantity of blood used is very big.
In my laboratory I used from 3 to 10 uL (microliters) for any of those determinations.

The problem with this scenario is not new. If LDL-cholestrol is truly low and HDL-cholesterol is not elevated due to alcoholism, Dilantin therapy, or CETP therapy, then no treatment is needed. To test the functionality of HDL, divide HDL-cholesterol by Apo A-1: a low ratio implies functionality and a good outcome; a high ratio , the opposite.
Don't be fooled. The dysfunctional HDL concept is way overblown. It does make a difference how one raises HDL-cholesterol. See my article in the European Medical Journal, about 3 years ago.
Having reviewed the technical documentation of the machine, the LDL= TC- ((TG/2.19)+HDL) .
As the TG was too low to register, this made the calculation redundant.
However, based on the equation and in the absence of a meaningful TG reading, it would suggest that LDL is roughly TC-HDL, and so approx 4.5mmol/L, which is very high.

I agree with Rasha Shakir Nima. The Friedewald for mule is adequate for patients with tryglicerides below 300 mg/dl.
I have checked in my researchs, in two opportunities, and the results was statistical satisfying.
