A very interesting theme for a MSc thesis. I would suggest, first of all, to identify which are the main or key factors involved in producing smart cities. Then it would be necessary to differentiate size, population, role, location, nature and complexity of the cities to be considered, in order to make a set of comparable standards and cities to be investigated.
The idea of the research theme should be to get a set of fundamental standards for smart cities, where contributions of technology could be seen as integrated and/or interrelated, to find out the appropriateness, effectiveness and efficiency of the various contributions of technology and its available instruments.

This subject seems to be just snowballing annd perhaps touches on something very vital for the future of the human race and the planet. - It can have a smart system for collecting green garbage for production of natural manure.
- It could have functional recycling plans etc.
