Instead of MES buffer, why we use NaCl to wash the Heparin solution from the nanofiber sheet?

I have an experiment as Heparin immobilized to the nanofiber sheet, after adding heparin/EDC/NHS solution, we usually use 0.05M MES buffer to wash the sheet, but professor asked me to use 5M NaCl to wash the nanofiber sheet. I need to tell the reason to my professor, can someone help me?

Do not know the details, but a high ionic strength will wash the material that is electrostatically interacting such that only the covalently bonded material persists (neglecting hydrophobic interactions).
