I have a question related to the rating scale. I have an original scale where the rating is on a 7-point scale, but my colleagues want to change it to just a yes or no option. How will this change affect the results if we do not follow the original scale?
Could you please direct me to any papers or resources that discuss this issue?

I think your readers will need more information in order to help you. For example, has the Likert-type scale already had respondents? Or, is this pre-data collection? The binary coding has advantages for the type of research questions you have. Is the data non-parametric? Is the yes or no responses in addition to the 7-Points Likert-type scale for Probit/Logit Regression techniques? Does your research question require data that is continuous for the dependent variable? Different methods require different levels of data on the scale of measure.
