The following papers might be of help to you. Lifespan seems to be heavily influenced by temperature, and this in turn affects when the cuttlefish will reproduce. This might explain to some extent why you have found contradictions in the literature.

In short, life span and habitat use depends upon the species. In the Mediterranean, for example, some species do exhibit onotogenetic shifts in depth use.
