Hello,

Does anybody have experience with negative effects of freeze/thaw cycles on crack occurrence in asphalt due to ice lens formation in crushed stone aggregate with considerable fines content (more than 8% of fines passing 0.02 sieve in this particular case).

Which conditions should be met in order to freeze/thaw effects impose damage to pavement structure (capillary rise causing increase in moisture content, heat transfer, connection of pores within crushed stone aggregate, etc.)?

Case history with photographs showing asphalt damage would mean a lot..
