India despite all the laws, rules, regulations on law books is simply closing eyes on disposal of very big big idols of Ganesh and Durga during festivals. These big Plaster of Paris and clay idols are being disposed directly in ocean, rivers and large confined ponds. The idols are painted with waterproof paints which contain residues of toxic heavy metals causing deadly effect on water quality, ecology, aquatic food chain system and causing several deadly disease in residents. Indian govt, Supreme Court and National green tribunal only does paper control in words but do not stop this practice due to blind favorism of religious systems. I ask USEPA, WHO, Unites nations and all other regulatory agencies internationally to. Ask Indian govt to enforce laws strictly to stop this disposal to safeguard our freshwater resources.
