I'm currently planning a forestry field trial to assess the competitive ability of a number of conifer clones. Clones will be deployed mono-clonally and in a mixed mosaic of single tree plots. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in overcoming mortality by applying statistical formulae etc.? I'm thinking that given the short duration of my trial (three years), the close spacing (10cm) and the age (one year old) that replacing individuals may create a bias.
