I'm modelling my own grid in matpower to calculate the optimal power flow (opf). The thing is my grid has WT, PV & storage system in them along with the conventional generators.Does anyone know how to include the Energy Storage System in the code? And how can I include the charging and the discharging?

I have developed my own WT+PV+ battery storage+ pumped hydro storage in matlab. I used the energy balance at each our including all generation and demand. I assume matpower should also do similar analysis. Does matpower include factors like depth of discharge, overall efficiency and state of charge as inputs?

Energy storage can be modeled as negative load if it is integrated into a load bus. However, you can also change the bus type to gen bus if the storage capacity is greater than peak load on the bus. I am working on the same so please let me know if you make any progress.
are you analyzing the system for a single period? i mean, do you care to keep track of the amount of energy stored in the storage system, such that the power exchange on one hour is reflected in the next hour?
if you are running this kind of problem, and you are running operations for more than one period in series, then i recommend using a subpackage of MATPOWER called the MATPOWER Optimum Scheduling Tool (MOST).
