Each crime committed in a secular environment should be dealt with by secular authorities that GOD has placed in his wisdom for the protection of the welfare of the PUBLIC GOOD. Various codes of Public Justice dating back thousands of years from the ANE from the ancient Sumerians who were the first of all ancient peoples to codify language in writing (cuneiform transcription) had a legal code set down by URIII in 2400 B.C. (Before the famous code of Hammurabi) dealt with child molestation and crimes against women. Why were the codes written? To deal with criminals swiftly and justly. crimes against children by adults are felonies and the justice system, NOT the church should have juris diction in punishment. I am a Chaplain, but the Bible is CLEAR. YES there is forgiveness for predators, BUT ONLY AFTER THEY HAVE been processed by the justice system, given their day in court, and have paid LEGAL penance for their crimes against humanity as a removal of pedophiles from the streets so that they can be dealt with in an environment away from children to deter them in the future if and when they are released from prison depending on the severity of their crimes. They should be stripped from serving permenantly in clergy position upon conviction by the church, and rehabilitated at the churches expense. All survivors of clerical abuse should be helped at the churches expense. This of course is only the beginning of the course of actions the church should take in its actions to reduce pedophilia in the ranks of the clergy.
My sentiments exactly. However, the Church is working hard to evade additional prosecutions. In the Altoona-Johnstown PA Diocese, the victims compensation fund initiated in 1999 has paid out $21M to silence victims and avoid further revelations.
Yes Richard there is a proper course. I donot think leaving the church out should be a course especially if some of the acts are committed by the church. In the Bible before there were soldiers or a justice system, the priest was the justice system. In the Bible because of adultery or any crime that they considered was unlawful they brought the victim to the high priest and he along with his counsel determined the correct action to be taken. Seemingly, fraud as light as it may be can send a person to hell. The Bible does not exactly specify a sin as white or black no matter what it is. If a person disobeys God's commandment he is found guilty of breaking the laws of God and deserve a punishment. Only when he confesses his wrong doing does God forgives and restores his soul from all guilt. I do not like pedophiles or wife abusers, I feel that they are wrong. Evidently somewhere in life the criminal was distorted. He may have a mental problem or an unbalanced outlook about life because of the way he or she was brought up. This needs to be corrected by the church as well as the medical profession. The criminal should not be placed I feel however, with murderers or homicidal maniacs. He should be in a facility where he can rehabilitate without being around hardcore criminals remember that this person is a clergyman. Being placed in the custody of the church with counseling from spiritual and medical professionals may be best for the clergy. Since we all have some kind of sin according to the Apostle Paul and John we should not be I feel so harsh on our fellowman, but we should consider what if this was me, or my son or my daughter would I want them in a prison with murderers and gangsters? or would I want to be place in jail? I have had nephews who has committed crimes. One was placed in prison and the other one was placed under house arrest (he could not leave the house, he had to stay at home). The one in prison became a trustee because the young boy really was not a criminal. He was caught selling drugs. People cases are different, but no matter how hurt we are remember that if that person is normal he is truly sorry and is hurting too. Just wanted to add my point of view. God Blessl!!!
