In your opinion, what are the reasons for the negative attitude of students towards mathematics?

An attempt to extrapolate reality

Most of the textbooks also most of the secondary school maths teachers are not capable to excite students. Almost all the USA textbooks are really very attractive as paper quality, colored picutures and hard-covers along with content and solved examples, but apart from EU countries, unfortunately most of the textbooks are not attractive enough to excite students !?
