The historiography of American opiate and drug addiction is relatively well established. However, the same cannot be said for Indonesia or, more broadly, Southeast Asia. Can anyone suggest historical or anthropological studies in which the author(s) discuss post-colonial Indonesian concepts of addiction? I am attempting to compile a list of primary sources (in English or Bahasa Indonesia) that consider the relationship between pain-management and opiate use, abuse, and addiction in New Order (1966-1997) Indonesia. Simply put, my goal is to answer the question: How effective was Suharto's regime at preventing addiction and influencing public perception towards opiate use? Thank you
