well,as António said, self-report or discover questionnaire could be useful, but it can't be quantified just using a sample tool such as 24-hour electrocardiogram monitoring,which could capture patient's heartbeat.

Patients received doctor's psychotherapy and behaved as doctor's expections for believes of doctor thinking it's effective and patients trusting doctor. I mean that transfer is between patients and doctor and others.

But the interesting element of transference, from a psychoanalytic perspective, is that it's unconscious and so wouldn't be measurable via self-report.

It's challenging because transference is an unconscious process. However, I still think that behavior resulting from transference can be observed.

FWIW, I generated some items that were supposed to assess transference from the patient's perspective for my Master's thesis back then. Transference was defined rather openly as: "The patient transfers existing conflicts and wishes into the therapeutic relationship." Maybe they are helpful.

The items were (own translation, not coordinated with a native speaker):

- I noticed that I behave towards the therapist in the same way as I do with other people who are close to me.

- I experienced similar feelings towards my therapist as I know them from other intimate relationships.

- I noticed similarities between my therapist and other familiar people.

- I experienced similar needs towards my therapist as I know from other intimate relationships.

(1 = never, 2 = almost never, 3 = rarely, 4 = sometimes, 5 = often, 6 = very often, 7 = always)
