it is known to me that only intensity or intensity ratios are affected by preferred orientation.

'Preferred orientation' is discussed at various pages, but only intensity aspects are discussed also here.

Also peak positions/shifts are not associated with preferred orientation as well as peak profiles *).

Thank you for the reply. I have one more question regarding preferred orientation. Is there any software that can simulate diffraction patterns with preferred orientation? Or two different population of crystals with different preferred orientation? Any help is highly appreciated.

We use this softwware:

A.C. Larson, R.B. Von Dreele, GSAS: generalized structure analysis system, Doc. LAUR. (1994) 86–748.

It allow to refine texture and concentration few phases.

Thank you Alexander. Does it generate a 2D diffraction pattern while accounting for the preferred orientation?

This software generate powder difractogramme in Rietweld refinement mode with accounting of preferred orientation and few phases in sample. We obtene stable results for sample with up to 5 phases.

So it generates 1D diffractogram or a 2D image?

If you want to have a 2D image, I would turn to those programs who do texture analysis, e.g. MAUD. However I am not in that field and cannot tell you anything more, I do not know if it simulates a 2D image of powder rings.
