I have a doubt that how does packet delivery ratio and hop count metrics gets affected with node densities in the network in any routing algorithm? I mean does PDR n HOP COUNT decreases or increases with the increase in no. of nodes? or what is the trend?
Yes, packet delivery ratio will be affected when the number of nodes increased or decreased. Also, there are many, many factors that govern the packet delivery performance in a wireless communication system: the environment, the network topology, the traffic patterns and, by extension, the actual physical phenomena that trigger node communication activity. It is difficult to isolate these phenomena in order to study the impact of different factors on packet delivery performance.
in term of the hop count , as the number of nodes increases, it will suffer from something is known as the edge effect.
While in PDR(i.e the number of data packets successfully received by the destinations divided by the total number of data packets sent from the sources) , as the number of nodes decreases , the PDR decreases since this metric affected by the vehicle speed, it means that if the vehicle speed is very fast, the packet delivery path becomes unstable due to the rapid change of network topology.
It depends on many factors such as Routing protocols, topology, traffic, signal propagation, channel and channel fading. PDR performance does not get affected by number nodes. For instance PDR will be different on wifi and IEEE802.11p for the same number of nodes.
In VANETS, the PDR depends on lot of parameters among then the number of nodes, the transmission power and the beacon generation rate. So in some cases it is dificult to make a linear relation between the increasing of node numbers and the PDR.
It will be better to consult the adaptive beaconing approach in VANETS to have an good idea on how the PDR is affected according to some parameters.
