In the final doctoral dissertation, is it a necessity or recommendation to add case studies done at the beginning of the study? I had done some case studies on the dissertation topic. Do I include them in the final dissertation? If yes, which chapter will best to include the case studies?
Any details on the matter will be appreciated. Thank you.
My thesis was 'Living with Faecal Incontinence'; it was qualitative, using constructivist grounded theory and collecting data using semi-structured interviews.
Looking at my table of contents, the order of chapters was:
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION
CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW
CHAPTER 3 METHODS
CHAPTER 4 FINDINGS RELATED TO AIMS ONE AND TWO
CHAPTER 5 FINDINGS RELATED TO AIMS THREE AND FOUR
CHAPTER 6 DISCUSSION
REFERENCE SECTION
So I didn't relate my findings until chapters 4 and 5.
AIM ONE
To investigate the impact of faecal incontinence on people with the
problem, and how it impinges on their lifestyle and quality of life.
AIM TWO
To identify the responses, methods of adaptation and management strategies that people with faecal incontinence adopt.
AIM THREE
To identify factors that influence people with faecal incontinence to consult health care professionals, or delay consulting, and their perceived needs in consulting.
AIM FOUR
To ascertain disclosure of faecal incontinence to health care professionals and the experiences of people with faecal incontinence in their encounters with these health professionals.
I don't know if this is helpful to you, but as you see, I prepared the ground first and then reported my findings.

Do the conducted case studies have any major contribution to your research study? If yes, then include them in Chapter where you have reported the research techniques to address your research objectives.
