In some research methodology books, it is mentioned that spiritual problems are not research problem. Is it true? The questions raised in Gautam Buddha's mind are not good research questions? The achievement of 'Nirvana', 'end of desire is the end of sufferings' are not outcome of his research? Doing penance is not his procedure of research?
What is true is that the answers to philosophical or spiritual questions that usually begin with 'should', like should death sentences be allowed, are not researched with traditional methods. However, you are able to use traditional research methods with some questions that surround, for want of a better word, the philosophical question. It would be appropriate to ask how many people support the death sentence using quantitative methods. You can ask how many people believe achieving Nirvana is possible?

I am going to guess at what the people mean when they make this conclusion. I admit I am guessing because their answer may mean different things. it may be that they mean religion and research are very different and thus answer very different kinds of questions. While this is often true, I would suggest that just as the answers to a research question can involve experiments and careful observation, these may also help in finding answers to spiritual issues. To examine how different religions address issues is a religious concern, yet examining various religious perspectives is a lot like experimenting. But this is a large and complex subject.
Thanks Sir! I am not telling about religious concerns. I am saying about spirituality and spiritual enquiry. Whether spiritual enquiry may be a method of research like other methods? Does it come under qualitative study or mixed research design? If not then why?
If one of your questions that Buddha raised is the belief there is life after death, you might be interested in this contest. Robert Bigelow, who founded the Bigelow Institute for Consciousness Studies, offered 1 million dollars to researchers etc who could answer that question. There is a book published or to be published with the best answers, according to Bigelow. That book or books would include methods they used to come up with their answers.
