What is the best method to determine In SItu Block Size Distribution if I have orientation, spacing and persistence data collected from 3D Point Cloud?
I considered using 3DEC but I am not very fluent in the software.
If you use the standard 3DEC "persistece factor" (from 0.0 to 1.0), it is easy to calculate block sizes, volumes and etc. However, this factor is not a direct measurement obtained from rock outcrops; thus, you need to find an acceptable way to convert trace lenghts into "persistece factor".
I if you are using DFN-generated models, 3DEC must extend discintinuities to create blocks, thus you end up with smaller blocks with lower volumes. In this case, I recomend the SiroModel code (https://research.csiro.au/msci/projects/mining/siromodel/) which considers only the blocks fully cut by non-persistent discontinuities.
