I am trying to run CV in in the dynamic conditions by using the microfluidic channels. If I use N-octyl-pyrrolidone as the solvent (more viscous) in very thin channels I don't get the characteristic curves of the analyte but in wider channels, I get the characteristic curves.
I would like to know that when I use a more viscous solvent in thinner channels why don't I observe the characteristic curves ?
Viscosity changes the drag force, which is given by
Fdrag= 3πDηv(1+2η/3ηdp)/(1+η/ηdp)
where, ηdp is the of the dispersed particle viscosity, η and v are the viscosity of the carrier medium and velocity of the dispersed particle in the carrier medium, respectively and D is dispersed particle diameter.
For your case, if you can take some approximation for the motion of the charged entity by using above, then you can obtain a physical force depending on the viscosity.
You also need to consider the diffusion length and mobility which changes with the changing viscosity.
Are you keeping the flow rate constant in the different thickness channels? Because you are changing the diffusion of your redox compound to your electrodes due to the flow, the electrochemistry will be highly affected by the flow rate. I guess you thought about this but it is not clear in your question.
