For study of melting behaviour and thermal properties of Paraffin wax, DSC is carried out. The tests are carried out in dynamic mode with heating rate of 10 K/min, where melting occurred at 57 oC temperature. Confusion is about calculation/ interpretation of Cp (or/and delta Cp) of sample in both the phases solid and liquid etc.
How to calculate Cp from the curve obtained for heating and cooling of the paraffin wax thereon...?
In order to determine the Cp, you need to run a standard with a known heat capacity and without any phase transitions. The run of course needs to have the same temperature program. In high-temperature DSC (which is used in glass research) we use a sapphire as it has no phase transition and the Cp is known for a broad temperature range. Maybe you can use sapphire as well.
For the calculation, often your software can do so when you have your standard (or reference) and your own sample.
