in case of using an initiator attached on the GO surface via esterification, then simply by hydrolysis (aq. KOH) you can cut the link of the grafted polymer chain. By this you can collect the filtrate and use a size exclusion chromatography (SEC or GPC) in order to determine if you have polymer chains and what MW they present.
In order to collect the pure hybrid material you have to wash the material with a solvent that dissolves well the monomers. Then by filtration through small porous filter paper like PTFE 0.20 μm or 0.45 μm, you will be able to collect the clean purified functionalized material.
A way to figure out weather you have a clean hybrid material is by using TGA analysis. By this at first you measure the equivalents per gram of the initiator. Then perform the same analysis in the material you can measure the weight of the chain per initiator.
