For sustainability in the social - ecological system, a balance needs to be met. However, biodiversity is often lost because of imbalances in the nexus. Give an opinion on whether economic growth through anthropogenic activities largely drives biodiversity losses more than others.

I think there are various factors causing loss to the biodiversity which include urbanization, industrialization, land leveling for different purposes. The ever increasing population is the major concern. In the times to come, more food production is required but the area under arable land is continuously decreasing. Thus one has to keep all these factors in mind while considering a loss to the biodiversity.

I see the anthropogenic factor as a crosscutting issue in biodiversity conservation. Depending on how we view it, 'human hands' are everywhere and such hands are also the ones needed to ensure sustainability in social and ecological aspects of economic development.
A typical example of how biodiversity can be conserved and socio-ecology system also maintained even in the quest for economic growth is the project called Enhancing Resilience Of Urban Ecosystems through Green Infrastructure (Enroute).
