I have received an answer related to calculation of failure load during fem. Please suggest that below answer is right or not

This method is preferably used during the compressive and tensile failure during Ansys simulation By Assuming that displacement and stress will increase linearly with the increase in load.

Following steps are used for determination of failure load.

  • Apply an initial load to the model ( This stage is comes after entering the Engineering Data and Geometry. At 3rd Stage, Static Structural or Model Fixed support and Force or Pressure is applied. This applied pressure or force is termed as initial load).
  • Then Determine the max stress value from the analysis results ( For brittle Material Max Principal Stress is used and for Ductile Material, Equivalent stress is used. But, Now a days, for brittle and ductile materials, Equivalent stress calculation is commonly used for better result.
  • By using Formula Factor of Safety = Applied initial load to the Model / Max Stress Value
  • Multiply the Applied load by the factor of Safety to get the failure load.
