Hi People. I want to know which is your idea about what is the best type of examination method? Oral method, writing method, an combination? Exam with exercises? How many theory, how many practice? What do you think about this?
Hello. You can try multiple choice and exercises. I think this format captures the main points of an engineering module. You can mix it up. 50-50 questions and exercises or 40-60, depending on what you taught, e.g. if you did a lot of exercises then the exam should reflect that.
I prefer a very complex exam system, because it can measure the real skills of the students.
I teach manufacturing process planning, assembly, CAD/CAM systems, CNC programming..., I have 80-350 students/subjects.
During the semester I give 1-3 simple design works (weight is about 30-40%, if less, no motivation for create good desigh work, if more, no motivation for study).
In case of written exam, I give 4-6 questions: definitions, theoretic questions, simple calculation.
But I have a dream: the exam contains only one question: let's create a manufacturing process plan for a given machine part. But still I deplore the students....
In case of oral exam, I created mor than 150 small questions (theoretical, definitions, smal calc), 3 students take exam in one time, a student get out 3 of them, and answer inmediately. It takes abou 20 minutes/3 students. During the oral exam we can discuss the design works too.
Hi Balaz. I think in the same sense about you over take students create a manufacturing process for a given machine part. But the students dont like this method.
