Strogatz had given a simple phase model for sleep-wake dynamics based upon two coupled oscillators (Human sleep and circadian rhythms: a simple model based on two coupled oscillators, S H Strogatz). It was supposed to be preliminary model to be made more realistic later.

(The reference to the Strogatz model: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/19536985_Human_sleep_and_circadian_rhythms_a_simple_model_based_on_two_coupled_oscillators?ev=srch_pub&_sg=foygOXxZYJIGGLUnguZgLYz05G1mg6pJqVMbxnBu1%2F3kBMkBgFse9Qy%2Fg9b3%2Bcqy_LxQLAV3SA%2Ftk09ebpOKEa34pwbd9HzcjOVYRFicQLP5C8NyY7Srghr5%2BebgSUfsW)

Has anybody seen such a modified/improved model based upon the phase model? I couldn't find any model that improved over the Strogatz model.
