This past Friday I launched a request for involvement of Wayne State University, Detroit to take a lead in a program that I will write the test plan, then step aside, that is intent on matching society's "gold", the elder, with youth. Why are the youth in a juvenile prison, substance abuse is a safe starting point. I wish to "bcc" you on progress, then, see what happens. My personal goal is my own mental health hospital. In parallel I am writing another paper "Attention/Awareness", the abstract will be on my dhcook.net web site by the end of this week. Beyond (and don't ask me how) I now have connectivity into ASAM (American Society Addiction Medicine), a research group that operates from within the U. S. Dept. of Justice, then a big bunch of law firms.
In France, among minors entering prison, drug use is mainly cannabis, smoked by nearly 80% of the prisoners with a high daily rate of consumption. In my experience, if the beginning of this consumption is associated with that of peers, it continues and takes a great importance by its role of regulating an existential angst that does not find an answer in everyday life. Cannabis helps to sleep at a time when no distraction is available, then, problems not finding solution, consumption increases, but this divestment exacerbates the problems. Even if recent publications stress the possible relations between drug consumption and psychiatric disorders, even if it is marginally relevant, it seems to me that the problem is more related to a development problem (attachment). The solution would be the creation of an environment secure enough to allow a projection toward the future (Winnicot). Of course, the project should take into account the neighborhood and the social networks.
