Importance of maintaining the record of Material Safety Data
Sheets (MSDS) of chemicals being used at the work place.
1) You have check its properties.
2) Major advantage is that other person also know the side effects and how to handle your chemicals ,discart, in case of emergency etc.
It seems burden but It is very useful to keep MSDS in LAB and also in free time we have to read these.
Accident happens only once but it has unforgotable effect in chemical industries or where chemicals are handles,So is better to prevent rather than cure.
In fact, the question should be corrected as Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
The SDS has come to existence since the GHS was introduced back in 2012. It is very important document that gives full details of a chemicals. The label on the container gives a summary while this document gives all the details that the manufacturer, user, packing guy, transport agencies, health providers, and waste handlers should know. This is a well orgnized document with 16 sections.
Each chemical should have an up to date SDS which matches with the chemicals used in any reseach facility or laboratory. The codes on the label of the container should match with that of the SDS.
