RG is a medium which give chance to stay connected with experts, researchers around the world. furthermore you have easy access to read many articles for free. It is very good to become part of such a diverse community of researchers, exchanging ideas and publications. For a young scientist, active participation in RG is crucial.
RG bring many learner and researcher together at the same page, the most important is you can get answer to your related question from the professional without zero interest. for me some time before Google, RG is the first option to look for the solution to the problem, and i successful.
What is your experience
Besides to what you have mentioned, RG allowed me to communicate directly with several researchers and request for full papers (that are not yet freely available to the public). I can also follow their latest projects and view the progress. This gives an opportunity for collaboration.
As I posted in regard to a similar question, I think that contributing to RG helps 'keep you sharp' by enabling you to reflect on your own thinking in relation to that of others; e.g. are you 'on track', or do you need to modify your misconceptions?

I find stimulation in the ideas explored in my news feed and question feed. I sometimes find articles that are valuable to my own scholarly writing.
But beyond that, as a senior faculty member, I enjoy sharing my experience with younger faculty. In answering questions, I feel that I am helping to mentor the next generation of researchers.
Indubitably, scientific sites like Researchgate provide scholars in different disciplines with certain gateway mechanisms for the purpose of sharing technical information and helping out each other in different ways. The utility of collaboration between various scholars help us develop our critical thinking strategies -a surefire way to accomplish more within a shorter time. Through collaborative work , we move forward because collective intellectual powers can provide us with values which guide our scientific endeavors and goals efficiently.
I find it useful. But we need to manage our time effectively while surfing RG.
Personally, Research-gate (RG) is more viable and academically helpful for me, as compare to Google, as I can find Experts, Articles, Suggestion, Answer to my Question. But the only demerit I found is that if someone uploads any information or article on Research-gate, then you can only find these, in that case then Google is more accessible. in short words, RG is a Unique searching tool, while Google is a hub of information, where there is a huge chance to be lost.
