COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in numerous impacts on the environment and the climate. The severe decline has caused many regions to experience a drop in air pollution. lockdowns and other measures resulted in a 25 per cent reduction in carbon emissions and 50 percent reduction in nitrogen oxides emissions.
This is a positive effect of Coronavirus. However, it is only temporary as soon the world will open up and pollution status will return to its previous state as countries strive to regain economic stability.
Arvind Singh says "greenhouse gas emissions have declined 6%". Zulfiqar Ali says: "25 per cent reduction in carbon emissions and 50 percent reduction in nitrogen oxides emissions".
Images from the NASA Earth Observatory show a stark drop in pollution in Wuhan, China, when comparing NO2 levels in early 2019 (top) and early 2020 (bottom).[1]
Covid 19 is obviously reducing the SO2, NO2 pollution according to some recent satellite images. But in a Chinese study, it was concluded that it will back to where it was before once the lockdown restrictions are lifted.
