Hi, I think you shouldn't use MAST but AUDIT or a brief version of AUDIT which best properties in old people. :
Källmén, H., Wennberg, P., Ramstedt, M., & Hallgren, M. (2014). The psychometric properties of the AUDIT: a survey from a random sample of elderly Swedish adults. BMC public health, 14(1), 672.
I agree with Peter - MAST is really outdated - AUDIT is much better. Are you looking for a tool that clinicians will use to assess patients, or for a "self-assessment" survey-type tool for geriatric SUD patients? (e.g. are you trying to screen for SUD or are you trying to determine severity of SUD once the Dx is determined?)
I'm looking for a tool to for initial assessment of clients. Is there research that argues this, Devin: "MAST is really outdated - AUDIT is much better" ?
