I need to measure IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFa) concentrations in blood samples of rheumatoid arthritis patients. What anticoagulants (heparin, citrate and EDTA) will not interfere with the levels of (IL-6 and TNFa).
The investigators in the paper attached investigated the use of various blood collection tubes namely, sodium heparin, sodium citrate and EDTA. They concluded that sodium heparin plasma showed the most constant recovery of all cytokines tested and therefore is the preferred anticoagulant.
