I want to use directed transfer function (DTF) to EEG data to do some causality analysis, and I am trying to know to effect of digital filtering on the data. Currently I am using EEGLAB 14.0.

I have learned the new, default basic FIR filter in EEGLAB will cause a constant phase delay in all frequency component of the signal. Is the phase delay also consistent in all the channels?

Also I have notice that there is some 50Hz line noise in my data. The EEGLAB Firfilt FAQ (https://sccn.ucsd.edu/wiki/Firfilt_FAQ) discourages the use of notch filter to eliminate the noise, and suggests to use a CleanLine() plugin, but in some resent publications people seems to directly us notch filters (such as this one: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0165027011004687). Which method is actually suggested?
